Artistic and Cultural Projects including Composing

On July 1st at 10.30 am 2008, The TRE-UCHAF SCHOOL CHOIR, Gorseinon, will record a song especially written by local composer Colin Goldring.

THE song, which is called THE POINT, THOMAS JONES THE MINER, is written in memory of a miner from Three Crosses who died in an explosion at the Wernbwll Colliery, Penclawdd on 28th November ,1929.

Many of the children from the choir have relatives who were in mining in Swansea and THE GOWER.

The song marks the inaugaration of a COMMUNITY ART, MUSIC and INSTILLATION PROJECT which will culminate in the erection of an art instillation 160feet high by 40 foot wide. The PROJECT named THE POINT will see the collaboration of musicians and artists from across the Swansea hills working together towards the goal of erecting the instillation on the Swansea Hills.

The instillation will also be marked by the performance of a symphony called THE POINT which will be a multi genre musical piece with the song as its focus.

The POINT will also be marked by painting and artwork in schools and public with the focus piece by AMY GOLDRING BA(Hons) who is a professional painter and the great grand daugher of Thomas Jones.

The POINT is supported by MUSIC and DANCE in SWANSEA a charity to help children at risk in Swansea.
