Kevin Brown was born in
Preston Lancashire, the son of a signwriter and
schoolteacher, and has had a strong interest in music
since early childhood. His ambitions have centered on
guitar as well as writing and singing. From an early age
his interests have been highly focused on the blues and
its related genres. His devotion to music has been
lifelong and his passion for slide guitar has resulted
in many outstanding recordings and performances
throughout the world. All of Kevin’s work is emotionally
strong whether it be with a full rhythm section or as a
solo artist. His work is admired by fans and artists
alike, many of whom follow his career with great
interest. His fresh approach to slide playing and
willingness to examine new ideas has resulted in
recordings which often seem to have a ‘timeless’ nature
to them as well as perpetually generating interest.
His career
began with the release of ‘Picking Good Tunes’ on his
own ‘Do Dah’ label in 1984. This came to the attention
of Joe Boyd at Hannibal records who released it in 1986
as ‘Road Dreams’. The follow up ‘Rust’ put Kevin firmly
on the map and was nominated for Best Blues Album of the
Year by the British Blues Foundation. On the strength of
these two releases Kevin signed a major deal with
Chrysalis Records in 1994 and his major label debut
‘Time Marches On’ has since been hailed as a classic,
and has had both a UK and European release through Taxim
records. ‘Sunny Side Up’ was Kevin's first instrumental
album and released in 1999. In Sept 2001 Kevin is
scheduled to release his first solo acoustic/electric
slide/vocal album. ‘Mojave Dust’ was recorded live,
straight to stereo, during the first half of 2001,
pre-release feedback suggests that it is perhaps Kevin's
finest piece of work. Kevin has furthered his
collaboration with ‘Moussa Kouyate’ Master Senegalese
Kora player to include UK dates in 2001. Recording has
begun between them and the future looks very bright for
this inspired combination of talent. |
